Media - Literacy Ideas and Links

Some resources which can you help you in your planning:
1) The Ministry’s Guide to Effective Literacy Instruction (volume 7) - it was written for Grades 4-6, but the sample lessons can be adapted for any level. Click
here to look at it.
2) There is also an e-workshop series with some excellent modules: http://www.eworkshop.on.ca/edu/core.cfm?p=modView.cfm&l=1&modid=32&c=3&navid=modView
3) In your schools, there should be a helpful resource with a purple cover called Media Studies (K-12) from the TDSB - it provides a good overview of the key concepts, as well as the triangle framework which can be used to help students deconstruct a text.
4) The Media Awareness Network website has lessons by grade: http://www.media-awareness.ca
5) A good source for public service announcements (PSAs) can be found at the Concerned Children's Advertisers website:http://cca-kids.ca
6) From my own personal media literacy guru at home: www.media-literacy.ca

7-foot brothers from India could be college hoops' next twin towers

Combined, they stand 14 feet, 6 inches tall. And surely college basketball recruiters soon will be sizing up brothers Sim Bhullar (7-4, 285, 17 years old) and Tanveer Bhullar (7-2, 260, and just 15) as they play for the private Kiski School in Pennsylvania.
Rivals.com reports the two -- born in India -- have improved steadily under Kiski coach Daryn Freedman, who has been an assistant in the NBA and at Division I schools. Sim averaged about 16 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks in his sophomore season. Tanveer averaged about 12 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks as a freshman.
Their father stands 6-1 and their mother is 5-10. The family initially moved from India to Toronto, but they put the boys in a U.S. school because of better basketball possibilities. Kiski is an all-boys prep school of 210 students 30 miles east of Pittsburgh.
